About Me

My story

My name is Audrie Mangel, and I am the author of As You Fly, a dyslexia awareness book created as part of my Eagle Scout project with BSA Troop 1736 in Kansas.

I have dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD, and my school journey was far from easy. For years, I struggled in an education system that did not always understand or support the way I learn. Those challenges, however, became my motivation. Instead of letting them define me, I chose to use my experiences to advocate for others who face similar struggles.

From 2nd through 5th grade, I attended Phillips Fundamental Learning Center, an experience that truly changed my life. It gave me the tools, confidence, and understanding I needed to grow—not just academically, but personally. That support showed me what is possible when students are given the right resources and encouragement.

As You Fly was created to educate people about dyslexia, break down common misunderstandings, and provide valuable tools that can help students, families, and educators alike. This project is especially important to me because it highlights the lack of support for individuals with dyslexia in many schools and works to close that gap through education and awareness.

In recognition of this work, I was honored to receive the Best Eagle Project of 2025 in the White Buffalo District—an annual award for which I was the first-ever recipient.

Through As You Fly, my goal is simple: to help others feel seen, understood, and empowered. Learning differences do not limit potential—and with the right support, everyone deserves the chance to fly.
