PARENT TIP... Make routines visible
A routine does not have to live only in your head. Visual reminders can make everyday expectations much easier for children who struggle with working memory, attention, organization, or transitions.
Try a simple checklist for after school: 1) backpack away, 2) snack and water, 3) short break, 4) homework or reading, 5) pack up for tomorrow. Your child can check off each step instead of relying on repeated verbal reminders.
Visual routines can also reduce arguments because the checklist becomes the reminder, rather than the parent having to repeat the same direction over and over. Keep it short, realistic, and easy to see.
